This audio drama was short and sweet, so I’ll try to make my review follow suit. Knight Errant Vardas Ison and his Martian friend Tharcadian Semuel arrive at a hangar bay to find a hunk of bloody meat that was once a space marine. Realising that he’s still alive, Ison uses his psychic gifts to peer into the Astartes’ mind and see how he ended up like this.
I was pleasantly surprised after multiple listenings to find out that the two main characters are recurring names in the Horus Heresy (which can be rare for the audio dramas). It’s a neat little story that leaves you wanting more, and I quite enjoy it but sadly, because of its brevity, its value for money is not the best. The story is 19 minutes and 38 seconds long including the intro and outro. It’s my go-to audio drama when I only have alittle bit of time.
As much as I personally enjoy it, I can’t recommend it to everyone.
I don’t want to give away too much, but I will say that you may enjoy this story if:
You like Konrad Curze
You like the Space Wolves
You like tid-bits about the origins of the Knights Errant
I should clarify that when I say Knight Errant, I mean the people who would go on to be the Grey Knights, not the war machines of the knightly houses.
Now this is a spoiler free review and as such I will of course, not spoil anything. But if you really want to go into this story blind, I’d recommend that you read no further, as I’m going to briefly touch on some of the more specific things I like about this story. You’ve been warned.
It was cool to see the Space Wolves acting as the Emperor’s watch dogs and checking up on the primarchs.
It was interesting learning about a knight errant other than Garro.
It was cool seeing Konrad Curze on the cusp of betrayal.
I bought this audio drama early on because I wanted to learn more about Konrad Curze. I actually got into 40k after seeing Curze’s newly released model in the White Dwarf. I looked up a lore video on him and from then on, I was hooked. As such, I was alittle disappointed by this audio drama, not because Curze isn’t in it, but because he wasn’t really in it enough for my liking.
I still enjoy this story though and I’ve listened to it more times than I can count. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
The Emperor Protects.
