Note that while this audio drama was originally made in three parts, you can save money by buying the complete story all at once.
This audio drama showed a lot of promise. As soon as I listened to the preview, I couldn’t wait to get it. If you’re looking to be scared, ‘The Way Out’ might just get you there. Though, I’d describe it more as creepy or spooky than straight up scary.
When the old and unreliable space vessel ‘Fortune’s Favour’ drops out of warp suddenly, the navigator must work quickly to ensure that they end up close to help. Once they drop back into realspace, the crew sends out a distress call and find that there is a lone outpost nearby.
The crew of the ‘Fortune’s Favour’ consists of five characters that start out as pretty cliché cookie-cutter architypes that you’d expect to see in most Sci-fi stories, but the story does a fairly decent job at fleshing them out and individualising them considering it’s only 77 minutes long.
This story has a phenomenal build-up to what was, in my opinion, a mediocre ending. Having said that, that is a matter of personal preference. Some of you may indeed enjoy the ending of this story. I’ll elaborate more on this in my spoiler review but it’s obviously difficult to explain why I found the ending unsatisfying without giving away said ending.
I’ll just say that I think this story raised a lot of questions and left one or two important ones unanswered. Now that can be really powerful in a horror story, leaving you wanting more. But in this particular case it felt like abit of a let-down.
If you’re into Warhammer Horror, I’d recommend giving this one a go, but don’t set your hopes too high. Otherwise, take it or leave it. As I said, some of you may well enjoy the ending much more than I did.
